Sigurd Hole | double bass

Constantly touring and recording alongside some of Norways finest jazz musicians, Sigurd is one of the country's most sought after bass players of his generation. He "possesses a deep-in-the-gut tone not unlike Arild Andersen" (John Kelman, allaboutjazz.com), and often works with music relating somehow to norwegian folk music combined with elements from contemporary jazz. Sigurd is best known from his work as co-leader in Eple Trio, saxophone and goat horn player Karl Seglems acoustic quartet and different collaborations with norwegian guitar legend Jon Eberson. In 2018, Sigurd also established himself as a band leader, releasing a trio album under his own name, as well as strikingly original and mysteriously beautiful bass solo album.

In addition to a strong rhythmic sense and lyrical pizzicato playing, Sigurd complements the more traditional bass role with both an expressive and subtle arco touch, presenting a folkmusic and at times fiddle-like color palette to some of Tords compositions.

Besides his work as a performing artist Sigurd teaches double bass and ensembles at the Norwegian academy of music.
